January 2020 Playlist + A Few Words.

Coronavirus has spread, killing hundreds of people. Extreme wildfires in Australia, burning down homes (over 2000 homes), killing humans, over an estimated billion animals and their habitats. And most recently, the absolute heartbreaking and devastating news delivered on the morning of Sunday, January 26th– Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Maria Bryant killed in a helicopter crash, among 9 other lives. I’ve been typing that and erasing for the past hour. My heart and love go out to Vanessa, her family, and all the other families involved.

It has been the toughest month of the new year for all humanity. This was not how the year was suppose to start, and not at all how I imagined to wake up on Sunday morning. This viral news has left me, and many others, with a feeling of emptiness and, has impacted us to carefully think about the energy we put in towards our days. The last few days have been such an eyeopener on how we can not take things for granted. Our next mornings and evenings are not promised. We should wake up thankful and blessed every day because we don’t know what can happen in a matter of seconds from the minute we wake.

The month is now over, so let’s move forward stronger than ever, braver than ever, and chasing our goals more than ever. After all, tomorrow isn’t promised, so live your best life every day, be kind to one another, support each other, love as much as possible as you can and count your blessings.

This month’s top-ten playlist includes songs picked from my Darkest Hour playlist on Apple Music. These are songs I listen to when I need to be in a quiet space, I’m feeling down, or just for those rainy days.

Your Guide To Shopping For Spring 2019

With daylight savings passed, it’s official, Spring is truly around the corner which means it’s time to prepare your wardrobe with new trends and color tones for the warm season. From minimalism styles to neons and animal prints, here are this season’s must-have fashion trends.

The Neon Palette

Neon clothing is a bold trend for Spring and I can’t complain because I am loving this trend. I just bought a neon pink cropped top from Aritzia the other day and noticed that they have a large collection for neons available in store. Many stores are embracing this trend including Zara, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21 and more.

Minimalism is Key

When you hear minimalism, you instantly think of a neutral palette and contemporary looks. Minimalism trends include soft shades such as off-whites and khakis. Here’s a look at a few of these styles that you can find in stores near you.

Tiger Print

As if we haven’t seen enough animal print already! Although the popular leopard print will still be seen throughout spring/summer this year, it’s time to welcome another animal to the game. Say hello to tigerskin prints, an emerging trend this season. From wool sweaters to dresses, this versatile print is seen everywhere.

Boiler Suits

When I heard “boiler suits,” I thought, what the hell is that? And then I saw popular bloggers embrace this head-to-toe trend and I fell in love. It may not be my go-to style for a jumpsuit, but it’s definitely a trend worth exploring. These suits typically have a drawstring or belted waists, as seen below. ASOS has a large collection of boiler suits.

“”For effortless, powerful style, there’s nothing like a boiler suit,” says Vogue‘s shopping editor, Naomi Smart.”

Colorful Knits

Yes, bring on the colored trends! Neon is definitely going to be a favorite trend of mine this month, but what’s better than exploring new shades of bright colors, especially when they come in cozy knits. These knit sweaters can be styled casually with mom jeans or dressed up with long skirts.

Tandoori Flame Launch Party

I had the pleasure of attending the official opening party for Tandoori Flame last night, North America’s largest Indian buffet that just opened their newest location in Surrey, BC.

Last night was an invite only event for people from the media industry, bloggers and others in the community to be welcomed at Tandoori Flame and have the chance to talk with the staff and owner, Shraey Gulati.

I had the privilege of interviewing Gulati and discussing the transition from Brampton, Ontario— where the first ever Tandoori Flame buffet was opened, to Surrey, BC.

“Tandoori Flame in Brampton was open in 2009 by myself, my mom and dad and younger brother. 2011 is when we wanted to open a second location and we thought of doing it in Vancouver. We came here and looked for a location for about one year but we couldn’t find anything. In the mean time, 2013, the Mississauga location popped up. We did that in October and since then we always wanted to open up here in BC.”

Gulati recognizes that there is a large South Asian community in Surrey and Indian food has become more mainstream than ever— “It’s the new Chinese, it’s become very popular.”

It took the family 8 years to find the perfect location in Surrey and 3 years to build the buffet.

“We are very excited to be here in BC,” Gulati shares.

Besides being a buffet compared to a typical restaurant dining experience, Gulati expands on why Tandoori Flame is unique among other Indian restaurants. One of those reasons is that sometimes you go out with your family and you’re limited to ordering food of the menu, you may want gol gappay but your sister doesn’t.

“Here the idea is, whether you’re a group of four, group of forty or maybe two hundred, you come in and pay one flat price and start from our kids station to our chaat station which serves about ten different chaats, our South Indian dosa station, then we have our tandoori station, we have the curry, non-veggie and veggie stations, Chinese station and also we have a halal station. Then there’s the salad and the fruit, the bakery where we serve amazing cakes, pastries and pizzas. Then we have for kids the ice cream station too.”

With over 150 food items and 12 different food stations, there’s no doubt that you will leave with your stomach stuffed!

“Where else can you find this for $15.99 or $16.99 or most expensive being $26.99 on weekends. At the end of the day the concept is Tandoori Flame, sab ke liye kuch na kuch [something for everybody].”
