Highlights From 2019 Met Gala “Camp”

The first Monday of May is known for the Met Gala, where the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts the famous Costume Institute Gala. Each year embraces a new theme to kick off the fashion exhibit. Last year’s theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” and it’s important that celebrities follow this strict dress code.

This year’s theme is “Camp: notes on Fashion” inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay: Notes on “Camp,” which is described as not talking in “terms of beauty” but rather “in terms of the degree of artifice, of stylization.”

While watching the red carpet live on E!, there were so many celebrities who nailed this year’s theme. From dragon and snake looks to neons, Gaga’s 15-minutes of outfit changes and Kris Jenner’s blonde wig; if you missed the red carpet, then you’ve come to the right place. Here’s a recap of what celebrities wore to this year’s Met Gala.

FASHION TRENDS THAT WILL BE OVER BY FALL 2018

Remember jeggings? Or blinged low rise denim? There’s a reason we don’t speak of those “trends” anymore. Trends come and go in the fashion industry and this summer may be the last season that you’ll witness some of these popular styles.

After hours of researching what trends will last beyond the next season and which will not, we’ve narrowed our list down to the top 6 trends that will disappear by this Fall.

CHOKERS

There’s no doubt that everyone was wearing a choker necklace when this trend reappeared last summer. From famous celebrities including Rihanna and the Kardashians to Instagram bloggers, choker necklaces were seen everywhere. These versatile necklaces were first made popular 500 years ago… it’s safe to say that we can put this trend to rest now.

Why is this trend coming to an end? Chokers have had their moment in the fashion, but new jewelry including statement earrings will replace the famous choker.

THE CHOKER DRESS

Wait… is it a choker or a dress? Either way, this trend needs to go. Just when we had thought we’d seen enough of choker necklaces on Instagram, out came the choker dress. Don’t get us wrong, we have seen various versions of the choker tops and dresses, and some are very stylish, but enough is enough. It’s time to move on, ladies.

CORSETS

The corset trend is as dead as Rob Kardashian’s sock company. The odd trend of wearing corsets over your dresses was cute when Kylie Jenner styled it with her FashionNova fit, but it was definitely a miss rather than a hit for the masses. As much as we enjoyed seeing this trend emerge and the different ways fashion icons styled a corset, we’ve come to the conclusion that it’s time for this trend to step down.

SNEAKER WEDGES

Wedges and sneakers? Yes, this did happen. There’s not much we can say about this trend other than it needs to go. Fashion brands including Michael Kors,Puma, and Isabel Marant have all come out with their own versions of the sneaker wedges, but this look is just not doing it.

It won’t be long before we see these sneakers disappear. Afterall, haven’t you heard that dad sneakers are the newest and hottest sneakers in town?

FESTIVAL FASHION

If Vogue said it, we believe it. According to Vogue, “Coachella street style is officially over.” This means that you’ll have to step your game up at music festivals this summer and stay away from basic trends including flower crowns, or any floral for that matter, fringe and feathers, cowboy boots and tie-dye looks.

Step out of the box and try new trends for summer festivals this year. Tassel earrings, wicker bags, Bermuda denim shorts, and gingham print dresses are all styles you can try this season.

MULLET SKIRTS

Yes, we’ve all been there. Mullet skirts, also known as “high-low skirts,” were definitely in style for a long period of time. However, as we’ve mentioned before, not all trends last.

The mullet skirts typically appear during summer, but this year, the revival will be fleeting. Ladies, substitute your mullet skirts for chic pleated skirts instead!

There you have it, the list of items you may want to take out of circulation from your wardrobe after this season. Remember, some trends do come back in better versions, and if you’re not ready to let go of your favorite mullet skirt or flower crown, then pack it away for now.

Little Pink Jacket

Easter long weekend just ended and it’s back to reality from here. With only a week left of the Spring semester, the grind just became harder than ever. I can hardly wait till my exams are over to go on a shopping spree to award myself!

A couple days ago, I was walking around Robson Street, Vancouver when I spotted the most perfect little pink jacket at Zara. Just my luck, it was on sale for $45.00! Talk about a major steal for a suede jacket. I am obsessed with the fit and design of this jacket. Truthfully, I’ve seen it worn on local Vancouver Instagram bloggers as well. Sophie Suchan styled her jacket with a flounce sleeve top. Her jacket was bought in light grey, but I adore the way she wore it.

Here’s a look at how I wore my little pink suede jacket:

White Denim Day to Night

There once was a time in my life when I refused to wear white denim… thank goodness that phase is over! I am obsessed with white denim and it is not as terrifying to wear as I thought it would be.

Of course, you have to be careful not to sit on a dirty bench while taking outfit pictures, but other than that white denim is feminine, classy and a must-have denim.

DAY DENIM

Whether you’re going to work or brunch, this look is comfortable for a chilly day.
